About the Victorian Classic Dinghy Network.....

We are an informal group of enthusiasts from all over Victoria who rescue, dust off, restore, display, sail and celebrate dinghies, skiffs and scows that were once
popular on every waterway but are now rarely seen.
We are keen to make sure that they don't disappear from sailing history.

If you have a classic Vee Jay, Moth, Gwen 12, Cherub, Skate, Rainbow, Heron, GP 14, Sharpie, Flying Dutchman, 505, Finn, 12 Foot Cadet, 14 Footer, 16 ft Skiff, Jollyboat, International Sailing Canoe, Fireball, Flying Ant, Mirror or a traditional or historical dinghy, come and join us at one of our events (see the Classic Classes menu for a list of classes).
If you don't have a boat but would just like to see the classic dinghies or perhaps have a sail on one, you are most welcome to join us.

Our big event of the season is the INVERLOCH
CLASSIC WOODEN DINGHY REGATTA  (details below)

                The Inverloch
Classic Wooden Dinghy Regatta
Every Australia Day long weekend the township of Inverloch is invaded by wooden dinghy enthusiasts who come together to display and sail their boats. There are races and prizes for various categories of historic worth and quality of restoration. The weekend ends with a display of boats in The Glade, the park between the yacht club and the town centre, where the locals are invited to admire the boats and vote on their favourite. There is also food, music and entertainment and recently there was a display of Indian motor cycles alongside the boats, to celebrate their historical connection to the town.t is a great opportunity to see dinghies that you may have started sailing on many years ago, or to discuss restoring an old boat that might be gathering dust in your garage and bringing it along to the next regatta - or have a sail on one of our boats. If you are looking for a boat to restore as a project, we can find the ideal one for you.

The regatta is also an opportunity to celebrate the birth of the International Moth which started life as the "Inverloch Eleven Foot Class" in 1928. We already have about 8 double-chine and mouldie Moths at the regatta and are keen to keep building the fleet and include earlier Moths from the 1940's and 1950's.

Port Phillip 12
Early Classes
There are some classes that were popular in Victoria in the 1940's & '50's but have long since disappeared: Payne-Mortlock Sailing Canoes, Vee Esses, Port Phillip 12s, Elwood Sea Horses, St. Kilda 8 Footers, Gwen 20s, Idle-Alongs and Sandridge Sharpies. Payne-Mortlock Sailing Canoes are still sailing at the Brighton & Seacliff YC in South Australia and the Wooden Boat Association has what is thought to be the last remaing Port Phillip 12.
If you have a boat from one of these classes or you know where one exists please contact us.
